The voicing Illitid in Baldur’s Gate 3 did not know that his character could be the goal of romantic relationships
Actor Scott Joseph, voicing the emperor of mind fighters in Baldur’s Gate 3, brought to life one of the most alarming romantic scenes in the game. Anxious – this is still mildly said, given that in Baldur’s Gate 3 you can make love with a bear.
As it turned out, Joseph did not initially knew that the character he voices could be the goal of a romantic relationship, however, when he found out about it, he was very happy.
In an interview with Dan Allen from Dan Allen Gaming, Joseph talked about what a whirlwind swept through the recording studio in the first several times.
On the first day, everything went past me, because I so wanted to get into volume and get character – if I can understand the character and make it natural, then I can focus on everything else.
It seems that he is not entirely sure that the studio told him about this directly, because he was so focused on getting into the image. After three or so, the directors talk about the depravity, which can lead to some players the storyline of the emperor.
And then they told me: "By the way, do you know that you can start a novel with this character?". And I thought: "Cool, yeah! A little love of Illitids". I like it.
"And everything was in order, I was not opposed", – He laughs, recalling how delicately the directors reacted to all this. They constantly asked him whether he was against the fact that he was put in such a sexual scene, but he emphasizes that recently there are more and more romantic characters in the games, and this helps to make the world plausible.
One of the main difficulties in the studio was the animation of his character, "because I don’t know how to swim and I don’t have a tentacle".
The most awkward moment was the recording of some sounds. It was necessary to overcome yourself and think: "And what would Illitid do in a similar situation?".
In the end, he notes, they managed to remove the entire scene in one double. I am sure that this somewhat softened the mental damage that the poor fellow had to endure from the embodiment of an erotic monster with the Schupalians.
